Christmas fair

Tagged:  •    •

The Christmas fair organised by the new business association "FAB-PO" last Sunday, was a success.

Next week, we'll have our next business meeting and will plan our participation to the Business fair in London in January.

This new venture seems very hopeful.

financial crisis

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Today's workshop went very well. There 5 of us and 4 nationalities. We talked about the financial crisis in each other's country, we read this week font pages, we played "Il ou Elle?", we talked about Coluche, we had coffee with biscuits from catalunya and Brittany.

The next workshop is planned for the end of November. We'll probably talk about the presidential elections inthe USA, we'll discuss the French system; we might have time to talk about the infamous local elections in Perpignan.

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I often get comments when I write " la professeure" with an -e at the end. " you made a mistake!"

NO, I didn't!!!

In French, we have masculine/feminine forms for - most- nouns .It was Ok for : "boulanger/boulangère, infirmier/infirmière, travailleur/ travailleuse, coiffeur/coiffeuse" etc

But there was a problem with some high level professions which have only been recently accessible to women : the name of the profession only existed  in the masculine form.

Now it has changed a bit and Jospin's gouvernement decided that all jobs had to have a feminine oral and written form.

The obvious thing would be to simply put an -E and "la" of course before the profession:

"le professeur / la professeure

Monsieur le proviseur / Madame la proviseure

Monsieur le président / Madame la présidente"

"docteur, directeur" follow different rules for other reasons...

docteur, directeur
